About the Researcher

Dr. Stoddard is an Associate Professor of Nursing and Associate Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education, School of Public Health. She is the Director of the Training and Education Core at the U-M Injury Prevention Center, training and mentoring graduate students, medical students/residents, and postdoctoral fellows in the areas of injury prevention including exposure to violence and other adverse childhood experiences, youth violence, substance use, and adolescent health and development. She serves as an appointed member of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Community Preventive Services Task Force. Dr. Stoddard is recognized nationally for her leadership in adolescent health and her interdisciplinary research to prevent substance use and violence among vulnerable populations of youth. Her research aims to improve our understanding of youth development within adverse contexts, particularly the effect of adverse experiences during childhood on youth outcomes, and to guide school and community prevention efforts focused on substance use and youth violence. Dr. Stoddard’s career has focused on promoting the health and well-being of youth and families living in communities characterized by substantial health and social disparities, and includes almost a decade of professional experience as a local public health nurse focused on maternal-child health, a nurse practitioner in community- and school-based clinics, and as the State Adolescent Health Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health.
