BIO

Dr. Sullivan has been studying issues that affect the wellbeing of victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) for nearly 20 years. She has a longstanding history of researcher-practitioner partnerships, collaborating with domestic violence service providers, criminal justice system practitioners, and health care staff to co-develop studies that have the greatest potential to influence practice and policy. She disseminates findings to practitioner, policy and academic audiences through webinars, briefs, and other types of presentations and publications. Further, she was funded by the National Institute of Justice specifically to identify key components of successful collaborations between researchers and practitioners. Dr. Sullivan's program of research centers on individual- and system-level factors that affect the wellbeing of victims of IPV. At the individual level, she conducts risk and protective factor research that informs the development of interventions to be implemented in community settings. At the system-level, she focuses on understanding the capacity of systems (e.g., criminal justice system, HIV service system) to meet the unique needs of IPV victims. Dr. Sullivan is a licensed psychologist who has extensive clinical experience with victims and offenders of IPV, providing services in a range of settings from inpatient units, intensive outpatient day programs, and outpatient clinics to domestic violence shelters, transitional living programs, and community programs.
