BIO

Irvin Waller Irvin Waller is an influential author and speaker invited across the world. He won awards in the USA and internationally for his contributions to the UN General Assembly resolution that adopted the Declaration on Principles of Justice for Victims in 1985. He won international recognition for his work to prevent rather than punish violent crime, particularly as the founding executive director of the International Centre for Prevention of Crime, affiliated with the UN. He has advised the governments of more than 50 countries in both the advanced and developing world, including that of Mandela. His recent book on Science and Secrets of Ending Violent Crime joins Smarter Crime Control as guides to politicians on how to invest in effective crime prevention. His recent book has got great reviews for readability and substance. It explains what is proven effective to stop violent crime, how some cities have achieved remarkable reductions in street violence, and why politicians will want to buy into saving lives and taxes. They are books on crime victim rights and humane crime policies that were published in the USA for the general public and are translated into Chinese, Spanish and other languages. To dedicate more time in Canada and internationally to the crime prevention agenda, he is retiring this year from being a Full Professor of Criminology at the University of Ottawa and from President of the International Organization for Victim Assistance (in consultative status with ECOSOC). www.irvinwaller.org | @IrvinWaller
