BIO
Dr. Mastrocinque received her Ph.D. and M.A. in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany and completed a three year National Institute of Mental Health Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Her work focuses on the intersection of victimization and health, with attention to specific victim populations. Dr. Mastrocinque has led, and been a part of, several multidisciplinary research projects focusing on understanding the needs and experiences of specific victim populations. This research explores victims' experiences with various response systems, including the criminal justice system, the health system, and the spiritual community. Her work is both quantitative and qualitative, and has included community-based participatory research. Previous and current research projects include work with families and friends of homicide victims, families and friends affected by suicide, and intimate partner violence affecting the Deaf community. A major goal of her research is to collaborate with first responders and service providers to create victim informed services that can be translated into education and practice.
