On February 23, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. e.t., the Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center will present an online Expert Q&A discussion with Nicole Matthews and Alicia Nevaquaya on “Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.”
Indigenous people across the country have sounded the alarm for years about the disturbing and disproportionate rates of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in the United States. It is only in recent months that the media and public attention began to look at the crisis. This session is an opportunity for advocates and other allies to increase their understanding of the alarming prevalence of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and how, as the Urban Indian Health Institute says, “… institutional practices allow them to disappear not once, but three times—in life, in media, and in the data.”
