Joy Swanson Ernst, PhD, MSW, is Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Wayne State University School of Social Work. She managed research activities for the Family Connections program, a child neglect prevention program based at the University of Maryland School of Social Work from 1998-2000. Family Connections was later expanded nationally. She has also conducted secondary analysis of administrative agency data from both child protective services and adult protective services, and the focus of her research has been elder mistreatment and adult protective services since 2006. She is a member of the research committee of the National Adult Protective Services Association and as member of committee was lead author of a review of research using adult protective services data.
