BIO
Dr. Brittany E. Hayes joined the faculty at Sam Houston State University in 2014 after completing her M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. at John Jay College, City University of New York and her B.A. in Psychology and Criminal Justice at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Her research has examined intimate partner violence, particularly abuse that occurs during the process of separation and risk factors for intimate partner abuse in developing nations. Her work has also examined macro- and micro-level factors that influence behaviors and attitudes. Dr. Hayes also interned at Women Aware, Inc., a N.J. based agency that provides domestic violence resources for men, women and children, including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, support, and children's therapy. Dr. Hayes has published articles in peer-reviewed journals such as American Sociological Review, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, and Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency. Her dissertation was titled "The process of separation for victims of intimate partner violence: Evaluating risk of indirect and physical abuse relating to interpersonal events." Dr. Hayes was named the recipient of the American Society of Criminology Division of Victimology's Research of the Year Award in 2017.
