SUMMARY:Research on Small Area Estimation for the National Crime Victimization Survey
DESCRIPTION:Presenters on this webinar from the Bureau of Justice Statistics will deliver a methodological overview on producing overall state estimates and demographic subgroup estimates from NCVS data using multivariate Bayesian small area estimation (SAE) models. This session will cover model formulation\, the challenges of applying SAE techniques to victimization survey data\, and the implications for researchers and others interested in geographically disaggregated crime statistics. SUMMARY:Youth Crime: Falling Numbers\, Rising Alarm
DESCRIPTION:Youth crime has fallen dramatically over the past three decades\, with juvenile arrests at their lowest level since 1996. Yet serious and highly visible incidents involving large groups of young people are raising legitimate public concern. Responses to these “teen takeover” events require delicate balances between protecting public safety and holding young people accountable while avoiding approaches that research has shown to be ineffective. \nJoin the Council on Criminal Justice’s Centering Justice initiative and a panel of experts for a conversation about youth crime trends\, what is known about effective approaches\, and what communities should consider as they confront today’s challenges. \n  \nREGISTER
