BIO

Rachel Voth Schrag is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Texas-Arlington. Her research addresses violence against women at the intersections of trauma, mental health, and poverty, aiming to improve our responses to vulnerable survivors of interpersonal violence. She earned her MSW and PhD from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, and her BSW from Bethel College in Newton, KS. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, her social work practice experiences includes several years as a counselor, advocate, and supervisor in an agency addressing the economic and social needs of survivors of intimate partner violence. During this time, she also served as the head of the research and evaluation committee, where she developed a comprehensive agency strategy for process and outcomes evaluations. Subsequently, she has taught program evaluation to MSW students, and enjoys collaborating with community partners on projects to benefit survivors living in the community. Her current projects include studying the experiences and needs of students who are survivors of intimate partner violence, particularly non-traditional students. She is also collaborating on a study assessing the effectiveness and implementation of Cognitive Processing Therapy for the treatment of PTSD in rape crisis centers across central and north Texas. Rachel employs mixed methods in her research, and believes that working collaboratively with community members, survivors, and advocates is critical to creating useful knowledge.
