BIO

Lisa A. Goodman is a clinical-community psychologist and Professor in the Department of Counseling and Applied Developmental Psychology at Boston College. Building on a community-based participatory approach, her research explores the interactions between survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) and the practices, systems, and policies that aim to support them. This research has focused especially on marginalized IPV survivors, including women with serious mental illness, homeless and low-income women, and culturally specific groups. Her scholarship has resulted in over 100 articles and two books, along with a number of resources for practitioners. In addition, Dr. Goodman consults to multiple national, regional, and local organizations working on the subject of IPV, including the NFL Player's Association, Casa de Esperanza: National Latin@ Network, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Planned Parenthood. She is co-founder of the Domestic Violence Program Evaluation and Research Collaborative, a regional collaboration among domestic violence programs, policy thinkers, and researchers. This collaboration uses a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach to produce scholarship that emerges from and contributes to practice in an ongoing cycle of knowledge production and application. She has received national awards for her teaching, mentoring, and research, including the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award, the Bonnie Strickland-Jessica Henderson Daniel Distinguished Mentoring Award, and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching and Mentoring.
